My Boring Life

Namerovsky made a phone call. At 3 AM, I suddenly heard a loud dial tone, and then a number being dialed rapidly. Then I heard B.B. Av jump up and say, "Oh no, Kitty, it is way too late to be calling people." Namerovsky, while exploring, had activated the speaker phone and stepped on a speed dial button. Who he called: B.B. Av's father, for unknown reasons.

After Namerovsky's failed phone call, he attempts to mail himself to the destination.

He also continues to slip in and out of the house in an unknown way. I think maybe XE got it right and he is somehow slipping under the inch crack under the door. But I haven't seen it or heard it. Often, he slips in without me noticing - whatever he does doesn't make noise. You don't hear anything around the super sensitive hollow metal door. He's just in.

That is one super-ingenious cat.

The most comfortable shoes I've ever bought go by the label 'Valeria Grossi': they're super-fine leather, flat court-shoes with wide toes. I found them in a pretty-shoes shop that mostly sells heels and pointy-toed options; these were one of 2 pairs of 'business' shoes. They're golden. Google suggests they're only available in Australia though; I suppose my only suggestion would be to give the boutique places a try? Good luck.

Namerovsky is amazingly talented.

One of my friends has the Dansko Professionals, and loves them.

I should try that with books. I only buy 2nd hand ones (or flog the public library or friends collections) because otherwise book expenditure would > groceries + rent.

Re the shoes - some people like Birkenstocks, others don't like the molded nature of them. I like a brand called Diana Ferrari. Mostly ballet flats (they do some old lady types as well, but I have been told they aren't any more comfortable than the ballet flats). I have yet to be seen wearing high heels in a hospital. Some people say they look more professional, to which I say "sexist crap" and "falling over while running to a code is not professional".

That's the bitch, no English libraries here.

Those Grossi shoes are only in AU, and I really couldn't find any normal ones, not sandals or boots.

I had some birkenstocks - wasn't crazy about them.

Danskos are great -- very comfortable for standing for long periods of time, don't put pressure on your feet, can be slipped on and off easily if you ever get to sleep, and look good with both professional attire and scrubs.

I was planning to get the stapled clog in the Cordovan Cabrio Leather for residency, but then my mother sent me a pair of them in Black Patent Leather as a gift midway through fourth year. So I'll be wearing those until they wear out. I think the Cabrio leather looks a lot better than the oiled when worn with professional gear. There is a chain that carries them in Israel. Way too expensive to actually buy anything at, but you might want to stop by just to learn the differences between all of the leather finishes and figure out what you want before ordering online.

I also saw a pair of really cute Doc Marten Mary Janes that I thought would work well as hospital shoes. I might look into them more if I decide to branch out.

I tried some on at the store. They were ok, but slippery. I guess they need breaking in.

And thanks so much! Why didn't I think of Doc Martens? I've been wearing the same boot pair since high school and they are so comfortable! I'm gonna look for shoes. Of course, I think of them mostly as ass kickers.

I second the Doc Martens. I had DM shoes in my last year of high school. Would have loved em to bits (except they were too durable).

I've had the close-toed Danskos for at least a year and a half now, and though they're scuffed -- I recommend the non-patent finish; it looks better beat-up -- they're holding up well otherwise. Super-comfortable, the best shoes I've ever had for standing in for hours at a time. I like that I can wipe them off or even rinse them in case of grossness. The only issue is, because they're loose -- they're supposed to be loose -- I can't run in them at all; the fastest I can go is a quick shuffle. Other brands I like for comfort: Naturalizer, Clarks, Sofft.

Yeah, that's what I felt like when I tried the Danskos. Like they kept flipping off my feet or something. I think I will go with docs...there's a pair of mary janes white with purple flowers I LOVE, which defeats the boring black/brown I needed. And some people wrote that they hurt their heel...but I want want want. And they don't have black in my size.

Hee, one of my Aunt's cats did that once...see, she "inherited " my grandma's telephone that had great big numbers and "911" on speed dial...next thing my Aunt knows, the police and EMS arrive, checking out an emergengy call that they can't call back..., at first, my Aunt couldn't figure out what had happened and was sooo embarassed. She had to let law enforcement in to make sure everything was okay...they she saw the phone and slowly things came together. Gotta love them kitties!

the danskos are no good in slippery weather...like rain and snow. I don't know how many times i slipped in the ice in philli in those things. Agree with Gabbiana, naturalizer is at least semi fashionable and comfy.
