Hope the neighbors don't see this

The neighbors who share our yard have a toddler. They leave these quasi-educational toys on the lawn, the little baby tables with things that spin and buttons and beads.

I caught Namerovsky up on two paws, totally intent, whacking away at the thing.

Your educational toys: good for brain stimulation in cats and your baby.

I hope they don't catch him at it, but I did find it hilarious.

Namerovsky's Market Share

Namerovsky...

Eats: Acana cat food, dry. It's got the three flavors, which is why I picked it. He hates anything fishy, so he really will just have two options. It just seemed so boring to never change. Right now he has the chicken, next time he'll get the lamb. And yes, I am aware that this is better food than I eat.

Before that, he got Nutrisource. He doesn't love either of them, saving his love for Friskies and other junk food.

There's no good wet food here, so sometimes he gets a can of Friskies or Whiskas, and very rarely one of those little Fancy Feasts.

Nevertheless, his absolute favorite food is garbage.

Dinnerware: Stainless steel bowls.

Litter: Crystals. I think it's least stinky, well, next to clay, but it's less gross to clean up, and seems to last longer. I also tried those pine pellets, and they were ok, so we may alternate with those.

Plays with: mouse on stick and little fish with bell on stick. When he first came, he liked to chase balls around but has somewhat lost interest. He's a lazy player, often opting to lie down and just swat at the thing when it swings above him. He also loves boxes, but hates anything bought especially for him.

Sleeps: he has the bed I made that was a few posts ago, a purchased cup bed for winter warmth, and he really only sleeps in his chair, the sofa, or our bed.

Is de-flead with: Alternating Advantage and Revolution, my impression is that the Revolution works a little better, at least here.

Wears: Currently a Lazer Brite blue fish collar with a keychain-turned-tag. I like it, but he will probably lose it soon as he goes through collars quite rapidly. That's why he doesn't get the engraved tags. The keychain tag is huge and makes noise on the food bowl. I feel sorry for making him go around so ridiculous...but he is...see title.

A game of stickmouse

Last night we had a good game of Stick Mouse, and broke a plant. Then we played foil ball, and broke a lamp and some knickknacks. At that point, we decided we needed a calmer game, and decided to play "Box" - in which Namerovsky sits in a box and pokes his head down to hide, then pops up.

Sorry about the pictures. After B.B. Av broke my camera, his parents got him the most expensive, crappiest camera in Europe. It cannot take a good picture, it is ALWAYS too dark, it flashes about five times before taking the picture so everyone ends up squinting, and it has a tremendous lag between the shutter and the picture, so when you snap it, by the time it actually takes the picture, your subject has aged, not to mention moved on to doing something else.

But it's the only working camera around here.

The tiger lurks in his cave. What is he waiting for?

It's the game of Stickmouse! The one that broke the plant in the background. In retrospect, that was fairly predictable.

Ok, everyone, calm down, let's play Box.

Namerovsky didn't care for me reading in bed, mostly because it didn't involve him. He was not subtle. I was reading peacefully, until I saw some eyes appear over the top of my book.

And after only three months, he has perfected the sneer of disdain that is so necessary for living with me.

The Namerovsky Update

Just skip it if you aren't into the cat thing.

Namerovsky is starting to show more personality. Yes, that's possible. I'm starting to realize how much he was in shock when he first got here; all that clinging behavior was just fear. He's much more independent now. After something upsets or scares him, he goes back to being something close to a "lap cat" (I never was quite sure what that means, I'd like to know actually), but now usually prefers to be around, but not sticking to me.

Since the car accident, he has had several other adventures, not all photographed. He has:

* Fallen onto a cactus
* Got a cut on his nose, which we assumed was a fight, but turned out to be something else entirely
* Brought me a present tonight
* Had a party. One night I came home really late, and didn't think he'd be around. He had realized the entertainment venue potential of the Mishkan garden, and had many cats over. I broke up the party and he had to come home.
* Played with some neighbor kittens and their mom, while pretending not to know me.

Without further ado:

Toilet training device under investigation:

And after:
(Yes, he has the entire half-bath to himself lately.)

Then, B.B. Av brought me a gift in a bag after grocery shopping:

It's a cat!

Namerovsky is a bad-ass who gets into fights. Note the cut on his nose (you might have to open the picture separately). There was another one in the middle of the nose:
Later, I found tiny nose-shaped bloody prints on the sides of the tub. I think he was investigating and poked my razor with his nose.

Tonight, he brought me a gift for the very first time:
It was a giant bug.
